The Truth About The Youths

Youth Ministry

This piece being reproduced here was originally shared by Nathaniel Bassey*. I found it very profound and instructive. The depth and layers of wisdom certainly will bless you. I am sure you will find it very edifying. Enjoy!

Youthfulness should not necessarily be translated to mean exuberance, energy and eccentricity. It encompasses all those attributes and more - but to say they are the crux of it, is to err. For example, in the Kingdom, when you hear the phrase "Youth Church" what comes to mind first is a group of vibrant, energetic and highly expressive set, mostly preoccupied with loud music, dance, arts, social media, fashion and fun. Indeed being a youth actually does include the following (aforementioned) but not limited to them.

I believe the fervency and vibrancy should be more of "in the spirit" just as Paul says: "...fervent in Spirit, serving the Lord" of which no doubt does find an outward expression to an extent. Sobriety, discretion, intelligence, prudence, humility, reflection, meditation, devotion etc. These should also characterize youthfulness. It should rarely be the case, at least in the Kingdom, that when the topic of the 'youth' arises, that what follows is a bunch of loud, pleasure-seeking and bubbly group of folks without much sound judgment and decision-making abilities.

Looking in the Bible, we find that people who revolutionized their world and indeed ours were youths. David and our Lord Jesus Christ are clear examples of this. Also reading Paul's epistle to his young prodigies - Titus and Timothy. We see two young men entrusted with much responsibility that would normally be the preserve of grown and (more) mature individuals, at least in age - but this clearly shows that maturity is really a thing of the heart and mind.

So beloved, while it's very okay to jump, dance, shout, sing, ping, tweet and generally be trendy as a youth, I dare say there's more. It also involves leadership and responsibility; one capable of engineering and spearheading the much needed change in a world desperately craving for answers.

*Nathaniel Bassey is a choice minstrel of God with an anointed music ministry spanning Nigeria and other nations of the earth. He is also a youth pastor with great insights from God's word.
