This verse of Scripture appears very odd. I mean this is Jesus Who is literally called "The Word of God". He is the last Person you would expect to say nothing! His ministry was all about preaching - speaking words into the atmosphere. Jesus even 'answered' a tree! This is the same Jesus that commanded us to speak to our mountains! Why did Jesus shut up here?
The answer is simple! Jesus was well aware of the potency of His words [John 6:63]. He knew He could speak Himself out of Crucifixion so He decided to be dumb for our sakes! - Isaiah 3:7.
He knew He was my only chance of salvation. He thought about how we would lose out forever if He did not die. So He refused to challenge His arrest or call for angelic reinforcement. He allowed Himself to be scourged. He took all the shame. He told those who arrested Him to let His disciples go!
What manner of love that a man should lay down His life for His friends? Hardly for a righteous person will one die how much more for sinners?
"For God so love the world that He gave His only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life!"
The love of God is calling out to you today. All you have to do is to accept Him!
