| We believe, do you? |
I have always been fascinated by the transformation of countries from awful to awesome status. Fascinating stories of how one of the city-states of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai literally transformed from being a desert, an arid and parched mass of land to being one of the many wonders of the world.
Stories of how Singapore grew from total dependency from its neighbouring countries to being one of the fastest growing economies of the world. Or how America moved from being a colony of Britain to being the most powerful nation on the face of the earth and her president, the leader of the free world.
How?
John Maxwell, the iconic sage in leadership sums it up: "Everything rises and fall on leadership". Remember the prince who drew up a mega plan for the ab initio desert now known as Dubai? His vision for Dubai was so lucid, he put it in a book and it became a world best seller.
The name Lee Quan Yew may not resonate with most people but as at today he is still regarded as the father of Singapore for his startling role in revamping the dynamics of his country. You certainly know of Abraham Lincoln, Washington, Benjamin Franklin and the likes on Mount Rushmore. These great men initiated the desirable changes they wanted to see. Guess what? It came to pass.
OK. What happened to our leaders?
Back in the day, I used to be really annoyed whenever Nigeria was described as a 'third-world nation' or 'underdeveloped country'. Didn't these guys get the memo? That we are the 'Giant of Africa?'
That was until I discovered we exhibit typical traits of those type of nations. Foremost is that we have many leaders but little leadership. To use the word 'leaders' is to be respectful. What we have in abundance are 'rulers'.
That is why it is only in Africa and some less developed countries that you hear the phrase "The Ruling Party". Also, the 'rulers' in these countries have little regard for the Rule of Law.
Just saying.
So Mr. Writer how does all these add up?
Far from being negative or sounding gloomy. The fact is that Nigeria is in a dire state but the truth is that we have a glorious future. Leaders are those people who initiate changes. People like you and I. Everyday people who do their bit here and there.
Epilogue.
I will be sharing my thoughts on Nigeria in snippets every now and then. I can't possibly exhaust them in one piece. I am developing a body of writings on the types of people that every country needs to experience transformation. Some of these people are The Thinkers, The Planners, The Culturists, The Strategists, The Futurists, etc.
Let's leave it here for now.
I remain one of few that still believe in greatness of Nigeria despite our current woes.
This is not our real face o. Lol!
We belive, do you believe?
Thanks for reading!
Have yourselves an inspired life!
