Random thoughts
Of the army of thoughts that have besieged my mind in the past days, one that has pulled an 'el chapo' from the confines of my heart unto the pages of my journal has been 'battles'.
Battles. Everyday struggles. Battle to live, to succeed, to become all you can be. Last year I started writing comprehensively on 'Man of War' and if God willing sometime in the not-too-far it should be in print.
Life is a fight. It is literally a 'Game of Thrones'. Everyone has territories and most likely will do everything in their power to defend their space from external threats and marauders.
However...
Wisdom is profitable to direct. That there are battles does not mean you must fight everybody. It seems to be the trend now - people going for each other's jugulars. The marketplace is not left out - the competition cut-throat.
A great man advised: "you are (physically) a limited resource. You do not have all the energy and time to do everything or be everywhere because the world does not evolve around you.
It therefore means you must not fight every battle.
Summing it in three words: " pick your fights!"
So don't be surprised if someone wakes up one morning and calls you out (when some people cannot really get you they do the next best thing - they come for your name). Even friends may throw insults at you publicly while others throw jabs discreetly.
The key
Response. Your response is the difference. Some things become relevant only when you respond to them. Some issues are meant to be ignored so they will die a natural death. Remember anything you stop feeding will starve to death. When a normal man fights a mad man, the story will be relayed as "two mad men fighting" because one was not sane enough to realise that the other was insane!
The Master said: "...turn the other cheek..." He wasn't asking you to be stupid, He really wanted people to snap out of that an 'eye-for-an-eye' mindset which is so OT. The normal human instinct is to respond pound for pound, so here is an invitation to be the bigger person.
Even the pound-for-pound champion, Mr. Mayweather picked his fights. So whenever he decided to fight - it was a big deal. That's one of the reasons he got so highly paid.
True story!
Some people have fought so much that they started fighting with the people they ought to be fighting for and loving. A husband fights so much in the office, it's no surprise he fights his wife at home too. The enemy is many things but he certainly ain't dumb. He will instigate fights such that people who should be fighting for their destinies will end up fighting identities. Instead of fighting for purpose, people will fight personalities. At the end of the day, they become like Samson, worn out from fighting unnecessary battles and in his quest to find some succour, he laid his head on Delilah's lap.
His downfall had less to do with Delilah's delightful demeanour but more to do with his weariness from warfare.
Just saying
Don't mess up what you have worked for all this while all in the name of shades, rants or clapbacks, protect your legacy. Why be petty when you can pretty?
He is called "The Word" but when insulted by Roman soldiers, He answered not a word such that the king greatly marvelled.
Mankind was saved because Someone shut His mouth!
Don't answer a fool lest thou be like him! Never allow anyone drag you down to their level!
