Mavins And Mavericks

PMB with a cross-section of youths in a "selfie"
In my penultimate blogpost, I ended on the importance of proffering solutions. Understand that the same energy we use in antagonizing and agonizing is the same energy we can channel into organizing. Yes the economy seems to be at a nadir but I can tell you for free that I know people who are prospering more than when things were seemingly "ok".

Without Vision, People Perish!
By vision here, I am not talking about an angel appearing to you with fire in his eyes, breathing smoke from his nostrils with the attendant trepidation. I mean people with futuristic thinking (I called this group of people "futurists" in an earlier post).

The Man That Saved Eygpt
Fast-forward to Joseph being in prison and Pharoah starts having these visions. He then needed someone to intelligently interprete them in economic terms - graphs, equations, theories and all.
This Pharoah is a smart one ("Pharoah" here is a generic title for Egyptian kings and not necessarily a nomenclature. This is why the Good Book says another "Pharoah" arose that didn't know Joseph.)

Smart because he admitted there was a crises. None of his cabinet guys could place a handle on it. By divine providence he is told of Joseph. Even though was not an Egyptian; he was an Hebrew slave who was on death row for a treasonable felony and wasn't in his inner circle - this Pharoah still gave him a chance! He put aside the social stereotype and other prejudices for the greater good - the success of Egypt!

Nice story, only that this is 2016 Nigeria and not medieval Egypt!
Exactly! The same principles do apply - Planning and strategic thinking!
For where we are now, the government should be open to Outliers - those people who may not be within the system. The guys with the brilliant ideas may not be in the political circles. What Nigeria and Nigerians need are solutions - where they originate from is really inconsequential.

Mavins
In my short sourjourn in life, I have seen enough to know that the 'make-it-happen' people in my space may not necessarily be people I like. To put it in contemporary terms - we aren't exactly 'BFFs'. I may not even be able to stand their presence but alas, they have the solutions I need!

Embers
For starters, the government is getting right with recent appointments in the Budget Office, Ambassadorial nominees and pockets of technocrats here and there. Also, the legislature is in the process of ratifying the legal minimum age to vie for certain positions. We applaud that. If we are old enough to vote, it necessarily follows that we are old enough to be voted for. Most of these Outliers are young people who are not captured in the political scheme of things.
Nigeria is the greater good. We are all we have.
