The Antics of ASUU and the FG

Since 1st July 2013, the nation's public tertiary institutions have been shut down after the Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU] embarked on an indefinite industrial action to protest the non-implementation of the 2009 agreement by the Federal Government.

The Federal Government initially distanced itself from the contract - alleging that "incompetent people inked the dotted lines on behalf of the FG". ASUU cried foul and would have non of that. The down-tools of the pedagogues is obviously having a negative multiplier-effect. Students, parents, Human Rights Groups and other civil organizations have implored the both parties to shift grounds for the sake of the students.
Only last week at the Presidential Villa, top government officials which included the supervising Minister for Education, the minister of finance and co-ordinating minister for the economy and the minister for labour were in a meeting with the representatives of ASUU for hours in a bid to finding a lasting solution to the crises. 
The government has offered to disburse a total of 1.1 trillion Naira to ASUU which will be released to them in installments of 220 billion yearly. Observers have commended the FG's action for being sensitive to the plight of the students. The onus lies on ASS to also shift ground.
We sincerely hope they don't become 'Oliver Twists' on Thursday when they make public the results of their internal consultations. We wait.
