Insist On Living! - Uju Onyechere

I dare to say that Youth Empowerment And Remodeling School [Y.E.A.R.S] is really blessed to have choice personalities share their wealth of knowledge with us both virtually and physically. One of such persons is Uju Onyechere - a veteran in his field who shared the following INSIGHTS on the group wall of Youth Empowerment And Remodeling School [Y.E.A.R.S.]. To douse your anxiousness, at the end of this post i will share the direct link to the group wall so you can feast on these INSIGHTS yourselves since i cannot rebroadcast all of them. Enjoy your reading!

Born out of wedlock in New Jersey in 1932, a Michigan couple adopted him just after he was born. However his adoptive [foster] grandmother took care of him from age five till when his adoptive mother died. Though he lived with his adoptive [foster] father, most of his younger years were spent in trailers and modest apartment as he moved around, tracking down work and going through two other marriages.
When David was 12, he convinced a restaurant manager that he was actually 16 and he was hired as a lunch-counter waiter for 25 cents per hour. The place was owned by two Greek immigrant brothers, Frank and George, who had started their lives in America as dish washer and hot dog seller respectively. David remembered that they [the restaurant owners] set high standards and didn't ask anything of their employees that they wouldn't do themselves.
Once Frank noticed a waiter giving a customer a tough time, he fired her on the spot and waited on the table himself.

David determined that it would never happen to him! The usual tip for waiters in those days was a dime but David discovered that if he brought the food quickly and was especially polite, he sometimes got a quarter [25 cents] as a tip. He set a goal for himself to see how many customers he could wait on in a night - his record was one hundred!
As his family moved, he changed job and because his new job demanded long hours, he dropped from school at 15 [one of his biggest regrets]. At 18, he enlisted in the Army and on his return with Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1962, he attempted to turn around four failing Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. Colonel Sanders and others told him he was dumb to try - but he did anyway and it worked!

In 1969, he started Wendy's, a global company named after his second youngest child David Thomas is better known as "Dave" of Wendy's International Inc - a chain of thousands of restaurants. When Larry King asked him on his TV Show if Wendy's was third in size compared to other quick-service chains. He emphasized that although McDonalds and Burger King have more outlets than they do, Wendy's were first in quality. Having built a company worth billions of dollars, Dave, author of "Well Done" and "Dave's Way" retired making few commercials, helping build awareness for adoption, likes to boat and plays golf.

Dear readers, was Dave born with a silver spoon? Did he have the best education? Did he get a bank loan to start his business or inherit the company? We are all capable of getting to any height if we but start small and follow the footsteps of those who have journeyed ahead and have made a success of their dreams.
