Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the famous "I HAVE A DREAM" speech by Martin Luther King. I am really trying to avoid repeating what has already been written about him on social media. One thing about that speech that most people are not aware of is that the best parts of that epochal speech was "on the spur of the moment" - largely unscripted [how i love giving out unscripted speeches; i don't like being put in a cage]. In a burst of divine inspiration, Dr. King released words that are now archived in the annals of history. He seemed to have gazed into the future ahead of him and saw what only great men can see - HOPE!
One of the many lessons i would love to extrapolate from this man is that they killed the dreamer but they could not kill his dream! Just like the biblical Joseph, everything they did to this man only made his dream bigger. Had they not killed King, probably he would have died like the average black American in his time. Today we remember King for many reasons, notably his brutal assassination.
Another INSIGHT about King which we should all learn from is how to be stubborn! By being stubborn i mean being resolute. Unfortunately we live in a world where people fight change, they fight anything they don't understand, they fight anything that looks bigger than them. When Dr. King was alive even fellow black Americans joined in persecuting his movement. They thought he just wanted a name for himself. The same people started naming everything they could find around after Martin Luther! Today, there are thousands of Dr. Martin Luther streets, Martin Luther Hospitals, Martin Luther Cenotaphs, Martin Luther this, Martin Luther that! Why did they not celebrate him while he was yet alive? I shouldn't even be asking. It didn't start today. It started with Jesus Christ Himself! A Roman Soldier only believed after they killed Him!
So for those of you out there with a dream, please don't get annoyed with the antagonistic environment you find yourself. It is in fact one of the pre-requisites of a vision - having opposition. Don't be surprised if such opposition come from your close ones [and it usually does].
If i don't stop myself, i might start sounding subjective. I have written enough to let you know that dreams never die; they transcend the dreamer!
Thanks Aplenty
Have yourselves an INSPIRED LIFE!
