If there is one thing that excites me, if there is one thing that i absolutely love about who i am and what i do - it is that not only am i a youth, i am also young at heart.
This is especially important because in my various dealings with youths as a resource person, i discovered that the 'HOW' sometimes is more valuable than the 'WHAT'.
Your methodology in communication is often times weightier than your message itself! That is why i promptly inculcated this in our Syndicate Sessions at Youth Empowerment And Remodeling School [Y.E.A.R.S.]. I sincerely believe learning can be and is actually a fun-experience.
When dealing with these young bloods, remember that you are in a CLASS-ROOM and not a BORED-ROOM [no pun intended and definately no affront to business executives].
I was perusing our media files and i saw this very funny screen-shot of someone laughing his head off during one of the sessions. He obviously had fun while at the same time he learnt a lot. [So be careful of your mannerisms during a YEARS Session, the cameras may just be on you!].
One of my friends, Godson Ubah - who is also a Convener of a youth-based outreach categorically states "having fun" as one of their objectives alongside the Kingdom objectives. This is one of the reasons i deliberately assume an informal persona most times in my writing and speaking even though i have a relatively formal personality - i am super-conscious of the fact that the vast majority of my readers and target audience fall into the jurisdiction of a certain youthful age bracket.
I strongly recommend a 'learning-is-fun' approach to youth meetings. Although there are exceptions - where strict formality is expedient, we should not erode the excitement off the learning process.
I know what this implies because i am aware of what it takes for us to successfully gather very 'active' youths and make them sit down for long periods of time.
The young man who is at the rear of the classroom is Sean Wilson and interestingly he is also a blogger. "From The Corner Of My Eyes" is his witty jukebox on www.wilsonsean.blogspot.com
